Teak Shower Bench Buying Guide: Sizes, Corner vs. Straight, and What Actually Matters
A teak shower bench turns a daily routine into something closer to a spa ritual — but only if you pick the right one. After years of shipping benches across the USA, here's what actually matters (and what doesn't).
1. Corner or straight?
Corner benches are the small-bathroom hero. They tuck into the shower's most wasted space, leave your standing room untouched, and still give you a full seat. If your shower is under 36" wide, start here — our corner shower benches come in several depths.

2. Size: measure twice, once wet
- Under 32" of free wall → corner bench or a compact stool.
- 32–47" → a 16–36" bench fits comfortably with room to move.
- 48"+ (walk-in) → a 47–71" bench makes the shower genuinely seat-friendly for two.
Leave at least 4" of clearance on each side so the bench never blocks the door swing or the water path.
3. Weight rating and joinery
A shower bench is furniture you trust with your balance. Check two things: a stated weight capacity (ours are load-tested) and solid joinery — mortise-and-tenon or through-bolted stainless hardware, never staples or glue alone. If a listing doesn't mention either, that's your answer.
4. Grade-A teak vs. the cheap stuff
Teak's natural oils are what make it thrive in a wet room — but only heartwood Grade-A teak has them in quantity. Budget "teak" benches often use young plantation sapwood or veneer over softwood: they grey fast, crack within seasons, and can't be sanded back. Grade-A teak simply ages golden and lasts decades with minimal care.
5. Care is 10 minutes a season
Rinse it when you rinse the shower, wash occasionally with mild soap with the grain, and let it air-dry. That's it — no sealing required. (Full details in our teak care guide.)
