Teak Care
Natural teak needs regular cleaning. Outdoors, its surface gradually develops a silver-grey patina. With appropriate care and suitable use, teak furniture can last for many years, including beyond the five-year warranty period. Actual service life depends on the product, exposure, use and maintenance. Our five-year limited warranty describes coverage for eligible defects; it is not a limit on how long teak can last.
How to clean teak
Clean natural teak with fresh water, a small amount of mild dish soap and a soft-bristle brush. Brush gently with the grain, rinse thoroughly and allow the top and underside to dry. Contact ARB Teak before using another cleaner.
Shower mats, benches and accessories
Soap residue and retained moisture can allow surface mildew to develop. Clean the top, underside and joints, and allow the item to dry. Contact ARB Teak if marks persist. Stop using an item that is soft, damaged or unstable and request an assessment.
Should I apply teak oil?
Do not apply teak oil, varnish, paint, stain, wax, sealants or other finishing products to your natural teak. Follow ARB Teak’s care instructions and the applicable warranty terms.
Patina, grain and small surface checks
Natural teak can change colour with exposure and develop small surface checks. Colour change alone does not establish the condition of the furniture. If a crack grows, a joint loosens or the item becomes unstable, stop using it and contact ARB Teak for assessment.
To refresh a rough surface, ARB’s care instructions allow light sanding with fine 220-grit sandpaper, working with the grain. Ask ARB Teak for advice if you are unsure about the condition of the wood.
Removing grease spots
Use mild dish soap and a soft-bristle brush, then rinse thoroughly and allow the teak to dry. Do not use degreaser, solvents or harsh cleaners.
Seasonal care checklist
Remove the cover, let the furniture air out, remove debris and clean it. Check joints, screws, hinges and moving parts according to the model’s instructions, without over-tightening. Confirm that the furniture is stable and is not collecting standing water before using it again.
Winter storage and covers
Protect outdoor teak furniture from strong wind, heavy snow loading, persistently wet ground and trapped moisture. If covering it, use a breathable cover with ventilation; do not wrap it tightly in plastic or an unventilated tarp. If storing it, choose a dry, unheated shed or garage when practical.
Cushions, umbrellas and moving parts
Before first use, wipe the furniture with a damp cloth to remove manufacturing dust. Check screws and moving parts periodically. Bring cushions indoors during rain and let all surfaces dry before storage.
